Scooby has a grade 4 heart murmur--a death sentence without open heart surgery
Meet Scooby, a beagle puppy surrendered by a local breeder along with his sister (now adopted). The vet who examined him found that he has a large heart murmur, large enough to cause his death by the time he reaches 12-18 months of age.
Scooby went to Globe University for an ultrasound, which confirmed the original diagnosis. Now Scooby is scheduled for an appointment with a canine cardiologist to discuss his surgical options.
Other than his obvious heart problem, Scooby is in wonderful health and loves the daily attention and interaction with staff and volunteers at the shelter. He is always at the front of the kennel, asking for attention, feet up high, whole body wagging. He is a LUVBUG!!!
However, he is quite small for his age and he tires easily. He sleeps a lot like puppies do, but we worry about him constantly. He will be adoptable when he recovers from his surgery.
Vernon County Humane Society has a modest "Angel Fund" set up to help our residents with medical needs that are outside of our financial ability to support. Please donate to help Scooby get the life-saving surgery he desperately needs to live.
We anticipate the surgery to cost in the neighborhood of $3,000 - $4,000 which is the largest fund-raising effort we have ever undertaken to help one of our residents.
Recently, we raised nearly $800 to help Little Bull, a puppy who burned in a dog house fire. He is healthy and happy living with his loving adoptive family today.
Last spring, we raised nearly $1,100 to get surgery for Maddax, a pit bull with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Maddax is enjoying life to the fullest every day and is such an adorable character.
